Welcome to Tominaga Laboratory

Tominaga Laboratory is a laboratory of “electrochemistry”.
Electrochemistry deals with the interconversion of chemical and electrical energies. The fields range from biological energy production to fuel cells.
In our laboratory, we specifically carry out research in the field of bioelectrochemistry. We are focusing in research and development of enzyme-catalyzed fuel cells and microbial fuel cells. We are also actively engaged in joint research with companies.

We held a farewell party for Miss Citra, and a welcome party for Mr Bayu.
Congratulations to Miss Citra for finishing her doctoral program. Miss Citra has made a great contribution to the research and development of skin gas sensors.
Mr Bayu has become a new lab member as a doctoral program.
We invited Dr. AYDIN ​​CİHANOĞLU from Ege University in Turkey to give an invited lecture entitled “Blue Energy Generation From Salinity Gradient”. This invitation was part of the JSPS bilateral joint project (Kumamoto University – Saga University – Ege University).
Professor Tominaga and Mr. Kazuma Matsunaga exhibited “Development of a user-friendly stick-type microbial fuel cell” at “the Innovation Japan 2024”. They exchanged business cards with over 120 corporate researchers.
Professor Tominaga gave a mock lecture at the open campus.
Miss Citra’s doctoral thesis defense was held.

Professor Tominaga gave “invited talk” at “the 6th International Seminar on Chemistry (ISoC) 2024”, held at a hotel in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia.
Graduate students gave a poster presentation at “the 61st Kyushu Joint Meeting of Chemistry-related Branches”., held at Kitakyusyu.
An interview with Professor Tominaga was published in the “Doctor’s Bookshelf” section of the website “Rikelab: A Laboratory for Considering the Ideal Way of Working for Science Students.”
We invited Dr. Kenta Iitani from Tokyo Medical and Dental University to give a lecture titled “Measurement and imaging of VOCs in biological gases based on biosensor technology.”
Miss Harutaka Sakaguchi and Miss Misaki Tsurumi gave poster presentations at “the 84th Symposium on Analytical Chemistry” held in Kyoto.
The research presentation by Miss Haruto Sakaguchi was selected for the “Prospects and Topics” section of the 84th Analytical Chemistry Symposium. This is a project in which presentations that are of great social interest are selected as topical lectures and introduced to the press and other media as “Prospects and Topics.”
We have started laboratory activities for the new year.
Farewell party for Miss Rinda. After receiving her degree in September 2023, Miss Rinda has been working as a postdoctoral fellow since October 2023, but she returned to Indonesia on April 1st because she had a position at the BRIN, Indonesia. Miss Rinda made a great contribution to the development of sensors using CNF.
Farewell party for Miss Fitria. Starting in December 2023, Miss Fitria spent four months in our laboratory actively researching and writing papers as part of her doctoral thesis research with the support of the Indonesian government.

Miss. Fitria came to our laboratory from ITS, Indonesia, as a dispatch from the Indonesian government. She will stay for 4 months for research activities.

Shino Nakao won the Excellent Poster Award at The International Joint Meeting of the Polarographic Society of Japan (PSJ) and National Taiwan University (NTU) held at National Taiwan University. This award was introduced on the Saga University website and to the Graduate School of Science and Engineering.
